Dennis Helfer, a Canadian farmer, as well as Elaine Helfer, a Canadian woman are her parents. Helfer is of German, English and Swedish descent. She was a student at the William E. Hay Composite High School, located in Stettler (Alberta). The three sisters she had, Tammy, Tara and Trena resided and worked on their farm owned by her parents. She was 17 when Helfer's modeling agency agent spotted her waiting in line at the theater.
